The Brief

This couple approached us looking to transform tired kitchen space they inherited when purchasing the property into an ultramodern kitchen dining room, befitting of the minimalist contemporary home they were creating. The layout had to make the most of a stunning seaview from the front of the property, with the dining area earmarked for this space.

In addition to cabinetry and work surfaces, a selection of new appliances were required as part of the project, as well as new flooring which was to be installed throughout.

Design Elements

To fit in with the contemporary ambitions for their new home, the clients opted for a handleless kitchen option in a minimalist Arctic finish – an option from German kitchen maker Bauformat. To add a monochrome element to the design, coloured dark grey handleless rails have been chosen to match other darker accents within the space.

As requested, the kitchen has been designed at the rear of the property as a galley style, with rear patio doors, and plenty of floorspace between installed furniture. Full height units on one side of the space house a selection of appliances, and adjacent a sink and hob have been placed on this run of units which also features a breakfast bar and perch space.

The work surfaces chosen are durable quartz finish named Himalaya, and have been favoured as a soft matt alternative, that is in keeping with the minimalist theme, and to add a splash of colour to the space a violet glass splashback has been installed complete with radiused edges as favoured by the client.

The chosen flooring adds a warming element to the space, and an overall scandi-style element to the design. This medium oak finish is from British flooring maker Karndean and is their Frosted Birch option from the Van Gogh collection.

Special Inclusions

A number of appliances were required as part of the project and the client has opted for several high specification Neff models to help them cook up a storm in the new kitchen space.

A built-in Neff single oven, combination oven, and warming drawer have been installed into furniture, and these appliances all use the Graphite Grey trim option available with select Neff appliances.

Opposite, an impressive Neff venting hob has been installed which removes the need for a traditional extractor in the kitchen, and again has been chosen with matching Graphite Grey trims.

Throughout the design personalised choices have been included, like undercabinet lighting to add ambience, as well as built in wine bottle storage and cabinetry to house the clients existing American Fridge Freezer and Dishwasher.

Project Highlight

The clients requested a space to perch and enjoy a morning coffee as part of the project, and designer Aron has delivered on this request with a two-seater breakfast bar installed towards the seaview end of the kitchen.

The End Result

This project shows that a minimalist theme can still have high impact, with stark monochrome accents and the occasional pop of colour, these clients are sure to enjoy this renovation for many years to come!
