With a recent extension taking place in this Mannings Heath home, the brief was a theme that worked in harmony with the picturesque natural surroudings. With a vast open space for the kitchen area, it was up to designer George Harvey to create a design packed with useful storage and desired decorative units.
Special inclusions to fit the way this client wanted to use the space were also key, with a matching utility and hidden pantry also specified elements.
The hardest design element to get right in this kitchen was undoubtedly the theme. With such a vast space, certain wood and stone effects initially explored proved too overpowering. The perfect choice in the end was German supplier Nobilia’s Sierra Oak wood finish; an impactful but not overpowering option.
To keep natural elements at the forefront of this design, oak cabinetry has been combined with grey slate stone effect worktops.
With new appliances also required, high-specification Neff products have been included. Two single Slide & Hide ovens feature, along with an 80cm induction hob, built-in extractor hood and integrated dishwasher. A full-height refrigerator and freezer have also been hidden behind doors for cold storage.
A key inclusion for this client was a Quooker boiling tap, placed in the middle of the large island space. The thought behind this is for easy access to 100°c boiling water, to be used whilst cooking or to quickly make drinks when friends and family visit.
For cleaning purposes another sink features beneath the windowsill. Both sinks offer extra durability thanks to their granite composition.
This project was undertaken as a dry-fit installation, and after our fitting team left, this client created a nice feature out of a short run of units with herringbone laid tiles and feature shelving.
The highlight of this project is the effective use of feature units throughout. Designer George has used end-unit storage, glass fronted units and exposed units to provide the decorative space desired by this client.
Each area has been nicely decorated with cookbooks and leafy plants to fit the natural theme of this space.
The end result is a project with inclusions that perfectly suits the way these clients live, with separate utility and pantry, decorative storage and unique personal touches. Using several natural features in this kitchen space has proved a fantastic design choice, which looks great from every angle.
