Contemporary German Kitchen in Ferring, West Sussex

This client in Ferring sought a light-filled kitchen space with a bright theme, and an open plan style, also including a matching utility.

The Brief

This client from Ferring, close to Worthing, approached the team looking to create a light-filled open plan kitchen space, which made the most of a rear extension and sunny patio doors. The theme needed to be replicated across a matching a utility area which was to include further storage, sink, and laundry appliances.

In addition, new flooring was required, as well as lighting improvements and an array of new appliances.

Interestingly, this project involved replacing a previous kitchen we had installed at the property, that had stood the test of time but no longer suited the vision the client had for this space.

Design Elements

The new design uses the rear extension as a focal point with a long run of cabinetry installed along the exterior wall and an island pointing towards the patio doors.

The layout created by Director Aron is simple, but ensures the area feels spacious and the gloss Alpine White finish chosen for cabinetry helps to reflect light around the kitchen. The kitchen itself is from German kitchen maker Nobilia, specifically their Focus range, and it has been designed in a handleless style to add a minimalist feel to the space.

Sparkling white quartz work surfaces have been chosen to add to the bright theme, and around the island the work surfaces corners have been radiused to ensure there are no sharp edges by the seating area for two.

The theme has been neatly replicated into the utility room to maintain the bright theme, whilst two full-height units have been installed close to the utility for a little extra storage.

The entire kitchen and utility are equipped with glass splashbacks and the mint colour chosen adds a coastal element to the design in a nod to the client’s seaside location.

Special Inclusions

A selection of new Neff appliances have been installed into the new space to enhance the client’s cooking capabilities, and add all-important function to this space.

A Neff venting hob has been placed on the island, which needs no further extractor thanks to its powerful built-in extraction and recirculating system. Elsewhere a Neff Slide & Hide oven and combination oven have been installed into furniture, and integrated behind door fronts a refrigerator, freezer, and dishwasher can also be found in the space.

A Quooker boiling water tap has been installed above a 1.5 bowl sink, which provides the kitchen with a constant stream of 100°C boiling water, as well as regular cold and warm water.

Around the kitchen space several lighting options have been fitted. Numerous downlights have been installed into the ceiling, pendant lights have been fitted above the island, and beneath wall cabinet undermounted lighting has also been installed.

The client also sought a new floor for the kitchen and utility, and the chosen Auckland Oak Karndean finish adds a nice warm element to this new open-plan space.

Project Highlight

The utility area of this project tucks away some of the important kitchen functions, like laundry etc. but does so in a great matching style!

This area is equipped with laundry appliances, sink, work surface space and plenty of wall cupboards for extra storage.

This project shows that a simple layout and simple furniture choices can still make a big impact to a kitchen space.
