Contemporary British Kitchen in Southwater, West Sussex

This Southwater client sought a summery refresh of their kitchen, opting for a unique door style and a home bar area.

The Brief

A light, bright and summery rethink of their kitchen space was what this client wished, replacing their previous kitchen with something to suit their sunny Southwater home.

They required new cooking appliances to suit a keen chef, a built-in solution for their American style fridge freezer, as well as a home bar area to make their favourite concoctions. The project sought to make full use of our complete installation service, with the ceiling requiring a full plaster with new downlights, and a flooring improvement required in the kitchen space, hallway, and downstairs cloakroom.

Design Elements

To achieve their summery ambitions for the space the client has chosen Sage and White finishes, with a unique integrated handled shaker door option from British kitchen maker Omega. The white finish is used for full-height base units and wall units, with the Sage finish used across work surface height base units, creating a nice contrast throughout the space.

A simple galley style layout keeps this kitchen feeling spacious, with a corridor of cabinetry either side to house appliances and plenty of storage. At the end of the kitchen the layout opens up slightly to make the most of the sunny patio doors, with the client’s American fridge freezer framed within cabinetry and a new home bar area installed opposite.

To keep an uncluttered feel, wall units have been installed at an elevated height making for a larger splashback area above the work surfaces. The client opted for a popular ribbed tile to minimise grout lines and create a clean and seamless look. This area in further enhanced by under-cabinet downlights which sparkle down upon the tile choice and crisp quartz Calacatta Gold work surfaces.

Throughout the kitchen Sage coloured plinths have been installed above wall units to further the seamless feel.

Special Inclusions

Heaps of appliance functionality is packed into this kitchen space to make cooking a joy. A BORA X PURE venting induction hob has been fitted removing the need for a traditional extractor, with two Slide & Hide Neff ovens and two combination ovens installed opposite.

At the sink area a Quooker boiling water tap features as well, adding the useful function of instant boiling water to the kitchen. Beneath a granite infused double Blanco sink has been chosen in an in-keeping white finish and conveniently below the counter an integrated Neff dishwasher has been installed.

Opposite from the sink floor-to-ceiling pantry has been chosen by the client to house small appliances and ambient foods alike. Several built-in drawers and baskets help to keep this space nice and organised.

Throughout the kitchen Karndean flooring has been installed, and the French Oak finish chosen compliments the cabinetry choices with a warm medium oak finish. The flooring has also been installed outside of the kitchen, into the hallway and a downstairs cloakroom of the property.

Project Highlight

This bar area was a key desirable of the client and combines built-in wine bottle holders in lower cabinetry, with a glass-fronted wall unit to store glassware which has been further enhanced with glass-lit shelving, and in-cabinet downlights.

A section of natural wood panelling has been installed behind this area to make a nice feature of the space, and the client’s own wine cooler has been installed beneath the counter.

The End Result

The contrast and combinations used in this design perfectly achieve this client’s summery and bright ambitions for their new kitchen space, with plenty of personal touches adhered to as part of the renovation.
