Classic British Kitchen in Colgate, West Sussex

This client transformed their kitchen space with a new open-plan flow, after our installation team removed an internal wall.

The Brief

This client sought the use of our structural building works option to transform three previously divided rooms into a flowing open-plan kitchen and dining space.

As part of the project they favoured a classic kitchen remodel, with new appliances and flooring to suit. The theme needed to be replicated for a utility area and a drinks storage space in the opposite corner of the room.

A bright and opulent space to work from home was required by one of the clients who was previously working in an uninspiring dark room.

Design Elements

For this project our structural team removed a dividing wall between the kitchen area and previous dining room to create a vast space for an open-plan kitchen layout.

A key design element was a strong flow between rooms. Designer Alistair has achieved this by using a clever L-shape run of furniture which also incorporates a peninsula island and seating to work from home. Opposite a full-height section of units adds plenty of storage to the design, also housing cooking appliances and pull-out pantry storage drawers.

The layout improves the flow into the utility space, where our team removed a doorway and installed a selection of matching cabinetry.

The theme makes use of a classic combination of Oxford Blue and Sea Mist coloured cabinetry, all chosen in a timeless shaker style furniture option from British supplier Mackintosh.

The two-tone theme has been teamed with a hard-wearing quartz work surface option from supplier Silestone named Snowy Ibiza. This work surfaces choice keeps the design feeling bright and to match the theme a granite infused sink from Blanco has also been opted for.

As part of the project, our installation team have also improved lighting in the room – installing downlights beneath wall units and into the ceiling.

Special Inclusions

Several special appliances choices were an important part of this kitchen renovation.

The client opted to improve their cooking appliances choosing high-performance Neff models including a Slide&Hide oven, combination oven and warming drawer. On the peninsula island a Neff venting hob has been chosen and installed, which removes all cooking odours and scents when in use.

Above the sink a Quooker boiling water tap has been installed which provides the kitchen with a constant stream of 100°c boiling water and removed the need for a traditional kettle.

A subtle Karndean flooring choice sweeps through the kitchen, dining area and into the utility – looking equally at home in each area. The chosen finish of Honed Oyster Slate is another element that keeps this design looking opulent and bright.

Project Highlight

In the former dining room, an additional drinks area has been created to nicely store this client’s drinks collection.

Designer Alistair has created this space using a CDA 60cm dual-zone wine cabinet and adjacent wine bottle storage. Above glassware is stored in a glass fronted cabinet and decorative items have been placed upon open shelving.

The End Result

This project is another that highlights the great work of our complete installation option and in particular our structural team. With their excellent workmanship and a great design from Alistair this client has the light and bright open-plan kitchen they required with a newfound flow and plenty of personal touches.
